TEETH WHITENING

If you have teeth that are stained and discolored, our in-office and take-home teeth whitening options offered by Dr. Philip V. Goduco in Vernon Hills, IL, can dramatically brighten your appearance. Over-the-counter whitening products can be found in most drug and grocery stores, however, professional teeth whitening under the supervision of your dentist is the safest and most effective way to whiten your teeth.

AM I A CANIDATE FOR TEETH WHITENING?

Professional teeth whitening is a low-risk, non-invasive treatment that is suitable for most patients. If your teeth are mild to moderately discolored by extrinsic, surface stains, you may be a candidate for professional teeth whitening.

Patients with intrinsic (internal) stains may be better suited to an alternative cosmetic treatment such as porcelain veneers. Additionally, crowns, bridges, and dentures will not respond to treatment so patients should whiten before they receive any new restorations.

Professional teeth whitening under the supervision of your dentist is the safest and most effective way to whiten your teeth.

In-office teeth whitening is a good option for patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder because there are no trays involved that can cause discomfort. Certain teeth whitening systems and formulas are not appropriate for patients with extreme tooth sensitivity. Talk with Dr. Goduco about any concerns you have during your consultation. He may be able to recommend an alternative treatment for you.

TEETH WHITENING TREATMENT

Prior to treatment, you will meet with Dr. Goduco for your initial consultation. He will examine your teeth and gums to ensure there are no underlying conditions that need to be addressed and that you are a candidate for teeth whitening. He will discuss your goals, lifestyle, budget, and expected results. Based on this information, he may suggest a different cosmetic treatment option, or he may recommend combining your teeth whitening with another procedure for a comprehensive smile makeover.

In-Office Treatment

Prior to your teeth whitening treatment, your teeth and gums will be professionally cleaned (*cleaning fees apply). Once your teeth have been prepared, we will place a protective barrier over your gums to prevent contact with the whitening agent, which can cause irritation. He will then apply the hydrogen peroxide-based solution, evenly coating all exposed surfaces of your smile. The whitening agent will remain on your teeth for a set amount of time and may be removed and reapplied several times to achieve your desired shade. Your teeth will be up to eight shades lighter after just one treatment.

Take Home Kits

If you choose to brighten your smile at home, we will create customized trays for you. These trays will be filled with a gel and worn for a predetermined amount of time each day or at night. You will continue treatment for several days or up to two weeks, depending on your treatment goals and the direction provided by Dr. Goduco.

Some patients may require multiple treatments to achieve their desired results. Most patients will require periodic treatments to maintain their results, which can easily be completed at home.
